My common sense reflections on politics and life

It's like Dems are more conservative than Repubs!

I've noticed for a while now how much the Dems views are agreeable to me... I used to be a Republican.

I'm a CSPAN'er .... yep, that's me.... and I often hear the phrase "I believe the president is doing the best he can" which is used to address most all of his current problems.

First of all, before delving into the following I want to state the rules of the White House communications game. They're simple really.... if you're sending emails and you're white house staff, you must send them through the white house email server. This law was put in place to accommodate the freedom of information act.

Do You Support Our Troops?

Do you support our troops?

That's a question that I hear every day on the right wing media. At first blush, my answer (as I'm sure yours) is of course I do! I love America! USA! USA! USA! I have friends who are troops... and went to the same high school as Pat Tillman (though I graduated some years earlier I did see him play football at Leland, and met his folks in the bleachers).

I do support our troops! But, if you listen carefully to the right wing media (ie Rush, Hannity, etc.) you'll find they're asking the question in a different context.

Supporting the troops in my opinion is the following:

Making sure they're adequately armed and protected before going to war (especially in elective wars)

Ensuring they are properly trained for each mission, and properly rested after each tour of duty

Providing the absolute best medical care and lifelong financial support for those troops who are injured (enough money to live a good life as an American hero should!)

Providing outstanding death benefits to fallen soldiers families so that they can live happy lives

Reporting the happenstance of soldiers deaths accurately and with dignity and NOT lie to increase moral or polls

Caring so much for our soldiers as to only send them on missions that DEFEND the USA from proven aggressors

Promoting each surviving family of fallen soldiers as heros in the media, even when they don't agree with current policy

Holding those who's lies cause deaths to our soldiers accountable, so that their deaths truly aren't in vein

Those are just a few examples of supporting our troops as I see it.

It's been a while... and things are just getting interesting!

Ok, I know... I've heard quite a few questions wondering if I'd quit writing, or just given up. Have no fear readers, I'm still here... there was some confusion of whether Bloghi was closing shop... I thought they were and tried a few other sites, got unmotivated and stopped... now low and behold, I can again post!

Al Qaeda and Republicans on Same Page

I wonder how many conservative folks have stopped to thank Al Qaida? Without sounding too much like a conspiracy nut, have you ever just sat down and viewed the timing of Al Qaeda's moves?

Burning the Flag... Is it right?

Tags:

Okay... I'm as much into protecting our rights as anyone... however, I'm kind of on the fence on this one... On the one hand, it has been a tradition of this country to uphold the rights of its citizens to express their protests through the burning of our flag. This "expression" is an extreme way of getting your point across I suppose. On the other hand, what does that expression mean... and what is the importance of our flag?

Wire taps - Keeping us safe, or infringing on our rights?

Today on Sean Hannity, I heard that the author of the FISA court rule has said that George Bush is absolutely ok in his wire tap procedures. He went on to say that George Bush has an obligation to protect us no matter what the cost, and that if he didn't wire tap, he'd be failing his duty.

Why I'm here....who I am...

Okay first of all this is my first blog.  In fact this is one of the first times I've ever done anything with a blog let alone written in one.  Before I began telling you about my opinions on politics and life, I guess for so should tell you who I am.  My name is Ken.  I'm 37 years old and though born and raised in California (Silicon Valley to be exact) I now reside in North Carolina.  I was a C student all throughout high school and did better with a 3.8 grade-point average in college where I received my bachelors degree in business.  I'm married to a beautiful woman named Rita who happens to be few years older than me.  As far as politics, I'd consider myself somewhat liberal in my views.  When I was younger, I believed I was a conservative because so many things in the conservative party make sense at first blush. I mean for instance who could possibly be for illegal immigration into the United States?  Or, who could possibly be against paying less taxes?  You see, I believe that conservatism is overly simplistic in both its views and its explanations. (i.e. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity) Liberalism on the other hand becomes a little more complicated.  You see, though it's easy to say "How could anyone be against paying lower taxes?" a liberal looks at what the cost is when you decrease revenues to the national budget.  In other words you pay less taxes but what are we going to give up as a nation in order for you to save that money?  You know it's funny, I remember listening to President Bush in his speech regarding taxes. I think this was in his first term or during his candidacy when he said to the American people that we have a surplus of money, OUR money and that he thought we all deserve a refund. Heck, wouldn't anyone agree that when we pay too much for something we deserve a refund? It made good sense, didn't it?   Now of course logic would only dictate that once that surplus was gone, so too would our refund right? Wrong! Bush still gave us OUR money back.  Economics wise this didn't make much sense to me... I mean think about it for a moment... you go to the store. The total purchase price is $10. You give the clerk a $20 bill and he gives you $10 in return, right? Wrong again... you gotta think Bush Economics for this equation. The correct answer is you would receive $30 back! I guess, thinking about it a bit, I shouldn't be surprised. After all, this is the President who ran several companies into the ground, (Bailed out by Saudi money as per Michael Moore) was denied enrollment to Texas State U (I think that was the one) and according to his Yale professor during a radio interview I heard, pelted fellow classmates with spitballs during class. His approach on taxes however, was a big no-no in conservative politics or at least in what I consider their overall strategy.  You remember their motto, "The Fiscally Responsible Party"? In essence he contradicted himself.  Before we had a surplus so we give us a tax return though really of course that was in the tax return it was simply a foreword of our tax return which we had to pay back at the end of the year.  He took that logic and simply forgot it.  This is why would find myself a hypocrite if I ever deemed myself a conservative again.
