Do you support our troops?
That's a question that I hear every day on the right wing media. At first blush, my answer (as I'm sure yours) is of course I do! I love America! USA! USA! USA! I have friends who are troops... and went to the same high school as Pat Tillman (though I graduated some years earlier I did see him play football at Leland, and met his folks in the bleachers).
I do support our troops! But, if you listen carefully to the right wing media (ie Rush, Hannity, etc.) you'll find they're asking the question in a different context.
Supporting the troops in my opinion is the following:
Making sure they're adequately armed and protected before going to war (especially in elective wars)
Ensuring they are properly trained for each mission, and properly rested after each tour of duty
Providing the absolute best medical care and lifelong financial support for those troops who are injured (enough money to live a good life as an American hero should!)
Providing outstanding death benefits to fallen soldiers families so that they can live happy lives
Reporting the happenstance of soldiers deaths accurately and with dignity and NOT lie to increase moral or polls
Caring so much for our soldiers as to only send them on missions that DEFEND the USA from proven aggressors
Promoting each surviving family of fallen soldiers as heros in the media, even when they don't agree with current policy
Holding those who's lies cause deaths to our soldiers accountable, so that their deaths truly aren't in vein
Those are just a few examples of supporting our troops as I see it.
